Any advice about how to attract and retain an audience?

Here are some “best practices.”

Have fun and make it personal!

If you’re having fun, they’ll be having fun. Just pretend like you're sitting next to your friend while watching the game. What would you two be talking about? Engage your audience in the same way.

Engage your listeners.

The second you see a listener added to your audience, give them a shout out. In fact, the best way to get the audience engaged is to ask your new audience member whether they'd like to join you in the Hot Seat or whether they're just listening in.

Tune into each other’s shows.

Our community is strong because our casters support each other. Regularly open Colorcast and show other hosts some love during their shows. If you support and collaborate with them, they’ll support and collaborate with you.

Schedule guests.

You will drive significantly more listeners to your cast if you announce that you will be joined by a guest. That “special” guest could be a player, a coach, a celebrity, an analyst, your roommate from college, really anybody. The key is to find a fresh voice with an untapped audience.

Engage with your co-host!

Use the improv tactic, “Yes, and…” Avoid tearing down your co-host or any of your guests, and instead, build them up. You don’t have to agree and you don’t have to hide your passion. But, you should always validate your co-host’s and your guest’s opinions.

Plan a few “segments”.

“Segments” break up the action and will help you begin to create an identity on the app. Whether you decide to talk about scores around the league, review historic ballparks, or poll your audience after every possession change, the more creative you get, the more listeners will crave your content on gameday.

Invite your audience back!

Encourage your audience to follow your account and to tune back in next time you cast. Every user that follows you will be sent a notification when you take the microphone next!

Have fun!

If you’re having fun, they’ll be having fun. And don’t forget to talk about yourself. Listeners will tune in for one game, but they’ll come back because they got to know you.

Ask and answer questions.

Engage your listeners by asking them questions and by verbally answering questions that they pose in the chat.

Encourage "likes".

Thank your listeners for likes and ask them to keep it up! Set ‘like goals’. To the listener, it feels like a game! “Can we get to 500 likes?!?”

Are you ready?

Tune in and speak up!
